Hello! Mommies, we all know the benefits of breastmilk. Whether you have breastfed your baby for the first few days, first few weeks, first few months, 6 months, or the entire year. In any case, I admire you for these ‘firsts’. It is one of the best gifts for your child’s healthy future. So, if you ever hear anyone asking you to stop breastfeeding. Here’s what you should say, “No! No!! Not until my baby stops.”
Breastfeeding milestones:
For the first few days, your baby would have received your colostrum, so don’t you feel guilty for not being able to continue it for long.. If you did it for about 4 to 6 weeks, you would have relieved your baby through the most critical part of his infancy. If you breastfed your baby for 3-4 months, then his/her digestive system is likely to have matured a great deal, and the baby would have better immunity. And, if you guys have been doing this for 6 straight months without adding any other food or drink to your baby’s diet, then you have definitely helped ensure good health throughout your baby’s first year of life! If you breastfed your baby for the first 9 months of his/her birth, you would have sailed him/her through the firmest and the most important brain and body development phase of his/her life…
As for me, you would be surprised to know that it has been our 13th month and we are still going strong. My baby loves my milk… Yes! Indeed. It’s the milk that has been specifically designed for him. Not to say that this is his only meal. At 13-months, he has also been introduced to single grains, lentils, and a whole lot of other food items as recommended by our own pediatrician.
So, here are my ‘Nos’ to my MIL’s “Beta, stop breastfeeding,” phrase, that almost haunted me in my dreams. Hope you will understand why I have enjoyed it so much and am not ready to give up yet.
9 Reasons why I don’t want to stop breastfeeding my toddler:
1. In the first few months, it helped my body to recover from the birth. Let’s not even touch the ‘weight issue’, please
2. I have protected my baby against allergies
3. It reduces my little one’s risk of ear infections and childhood cancers
4. I have a family history of breast cancer. So all the more reason to find natural ways to keep that ‘C’ letter word from entering my mind and my body. And how? Breastfeeding! It has reduced my own risk
5. To ensure a baby’s better brain and body development
6. A breastfed baby is much less likely to need speech therapy
7. Breastfeeding for long will ensure the baby gets required comfort. And, who doesn’t like a comfortable baby?
8. I have been able to establish a solid bond with him
9. We save money on artificial milk – Yes! We are frugal (wink wink)
For some, the most important question is for how long to continue breastfeeding? Well! It is a personal decision and it also depends on your baby’s need. Whether you breastfeed your baby for a day or like me, for more than a year, the decision to breastfeed your child is THE ONE you will never regret.

I personally recommend all moms to continue breastfeeding their babies for at least two years – It is good for both the mother and the child.
I totally love this! My daughter will be two in March and we’re still going strong. I love the cuddles I get in the process that I certainly wouldn’t get if I didn’t nurse. We have no plans for stopping anytime soon and it’s so awesome to see that there’s a community of mothers out there who are in the same boat!
Beautiful blog and beautiful topic.
I am glad you liked the post and the blog too. It’s so encouraging to hear such lovely comments from fellow mothers. God bless your daughter. Keep visiting… Ta!
My physican suggests BF for 2 years. I am on month13 and have no plans to stop. My little girl has been eating finger foods since 8 months (soft/purrees since 5/6 months), but she loves nursing – day & night!
Good for you! Breastfeeding is amazing!
