Vomiting during pregnancy is one of the most common symptoms of morning sickness! Here is how to prevent it
As much as the sheer sight of watching those two faint pink lines come alive makes a woman happy, they also dread the morning sickness, nausea and other such things which come along with being pregnant. In fact, vomiting is so synonymous with being pregnant, that whenever one sees a woman throwing up, they draw up a conclusion that she very well might be expecting.
As many as 60% of woman worldwide suffer from frequent bouts of vomiting during their first trimester. Most women wake up terribly feeling sick in the morning. Vomiting is one of the most common symptoms of morning sickness. The exact cause of morning sickness is not known or proved by anyone yet, but it is said that it is caused due to changes in hormonal levels of the body and when the stomach muscles contract abnormally.
While doctors always give SOS medicines to expecting moms, but there are still a few home remedies which can banish the vomiting. No wonder home remedies always come to our rescue, and pregnancy is no different. Presenting some ingredients from your kitchen which are very easily available and will surely help in calming your nerves and senses and thus prevent regular bouts of vomiting.
1. Drink water:
We are sure your gynecologist has advised you to drink water at regular intervals throughout the day. Bashing off morning sickness might be the number one reason for that. Even for those who don’t have morning sickness, water will anyway keep you well hydrated and keep your amniotic fluid at a decent level. Always keep a glass of bottle next to your bed, and drink water as soon as you wake up, so that you don’t have to rush to the kitchen early in the morning.
2. Fennel seeds (Saunf):
Fennel is one of the most popular freshener taken post meals. Ever wondered why? That is because it is one of the best seeds which aid in digestion and provide relief from stomach gas. They are also said to soothe ailments related to bowels. The aroma of fennel seeds or saunf as it is popularly known is also said to give a calming effect to one’s senses. Keep a small bottle of saunf in your handbag while you are on the go. Just chew on some fennel seeds which will provide immediate results or just gulp it down with water.
3. Lemon juice:
Lemon juice is effective and by far the best remedy to cure vomiting or better still, nausea during morning sickness. Lemons are an excellent source of Vitamin C and aid in digestion. You can make your very own ‘Desi Shikanji’ or just add a few drops of lemon along with honey.
4. Ginger:
Ginger is also an ingredient which is readily available in markets and is most likely to land up stocked up for an entire week in our refrigerator. Ginger is found to have calming effects and provides relief from nausea resulted due to morning sickness. Ginger primarily has antispasmodic properties which help in relaxation of the muscles of intestines and thus is a great remedy to prevent frequent attacks of vomit.
5. Peppermint:
It is due to the calming effect and wonderful fragrance of peppermint which has landed it in among the family of essential oils. Its fragrance helps in calming down the muscles of stomach and intestines which in turn aids proper digestion of food. Peppermint can be taken by expecting moms in various forms, the most popular one being peppermint tea. While it’s not possible to have tea while you are on the go, so it’s best to pack some leaves and just inhale the fragrance to get some immediate relief.
6. Kiwi:
Kiwi is one fruit which every woman tends to when she is expecting. Just like lemons and oranges, kiwis are an excellent source of Vitamin C and aid in proper digestion. They are a powerhouse of vitamins and minerals and have folate in a certain percentage. Thus, Kiwi is an excellent fruit which can help in battling vomiting during pregnancy.
