Pregnancy – A Life-changing phase of a woman’s life. A heavenly roller-coaster journey filled with myriads of emotions and bodily changes. Morning pregnancy sickness caused by vomiting and nausea is one of the common problems faced by all pregnant women. Some experience in the early hours of the day and few even experience throughout the entire first trimester of the pregnancy.
While there is no complete escape from morning sickness, there are some age-old grandma’s prescriptions and tried and tested simple home remedies to handle the morning sickness in a more controlled fashion. 1. Fennel Seeds:
Fennel seeds are rich sources of anaesthetic ingredients with a pleasant aroma and flavour. You can chew a spoonful of fennel seeds after every meal. You can also mix a tablespoon of fennel seeds to a quarter millilitre of water, with a pinch of honey and lemon juice; boil the same and drink it as per your convenience. This will help reduce the vomiting sessions in a day and comfort your body.
2. Ginger:
Drink a cup of ginger tea to ease the agitation of your stomach. If you don’t prefer tea, you can grate a small, fresh piece of Ginger and put the same in a boiling water. Rest it for a few minutes, strain it and drink the same. If you do not like the raw taste of ginger, add honey to add flavour.
3. Mint:
A perfect medicine to give relief for vomiting during pregnancy. You can chew peppermint candy or use some of the dried mint leaves in a boiling water along with honey and lemon. Strain the water and cool it down. Drink the same, at regular intervals to ease your body from morning sickness.
4. Dodge Caffeine:
There are no restrictions on drinking coffee or tea during pregnancy. Most women get tired because of constant vomiting and nausea; prefer to take a cup of coffee or tea to rejuvenate themselves. Yet, scientific studies have indicated that caffeine elicits vomiting during pregnancy. Gone beyond the limits, it might also sometimes harm the baby. If you are a coffee lover, you need to have an eye on your coffee dosage.
5. Pomegranate and Bananas:
The luscious red pomegranate is perfect treat tables for your taste buds and tummy. You can have a bowl full of these pearl-like seeds or make a juice out of it to get instant relief from the erratic morning sickness. Bananas are rich in potassium and a great source of minerals, which helps to balance the fluid content of your body. One banana can keep a check of the early morning vomiting sensation.
6. Drink Lukewarm Water:
A glass of lukewarm water on an empty stomach can help you cleanse your body as well as appease your muffled stomach. Do not forget to drink a glass full of lukewarm water if you have had outside food the day before or eaten any deep-fried foods.
7 ‘No’ to Fried Food:
The craving of deep-fried and crunchy snacks is a common emotion of every pregnant woman. However, you need to avoid these deep-friend mouthwatering foods, as they can cause continuous vomiting and nausea. Lick a slice of lemon, chew some carom seeds or fennel seeds to subside such yearning.
8. Portion Eating:
Set a pattern of portion eating at regular intervals. It is recommended that all pregnant women must consume something or the other every two to two and half hours. Smaller meals can help better digestion and enhance your metabolism. Never stay hungry. An empty stomach is a key to nausea and vomiting.
9. ‘No’ to Stress:
Emotional imbalance during pregnancy can cause stress which instigates morning sickness. Be vigilant and aware your triggers and keep calm and say no to stress.
10. Body Rest:
Morning sickness also means that your body hasn’t had enough sleep and rest. Do not stress or tire yourselves beyond your body’s capacity. A consistent and good night tight sleep is a must for your pregnancy.
