“But if thought corrupts language, language can also corrupt thought.” These were the wise words spoken by the legendary English author and journalist George Orwell, and he couldn’t be more right. I, being a reader and also an amateur writer, have never underestimated the power of language and words of human beings. From a very young age, I have had the habit of reading and today when I look back, I realize that whatever my ideals are, it is thanks to these words etched in my mind since the childhood, either through the books I read or advice and learnings imparted by my parents, teachers and elders.
It is said and also believed that a tree, a small plant or for that matter even a building, will stand strong if its foundation is strong. So, let us strive and vow to instill good manners and thoughts into our children from an age when their understanding actually begins to develop. Teach your children these inspirational quotes on (i) Letting go; (ii) Family; (iii) Having good friends and standing by them through thick and thin; (iv) Doing what you love; and (v) Compassion and respect
1. “In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: it goes on.” -Robert Frost
2. “Giving up doesn’t always mean you are weak, sometimes it means you are strong enough to let go.” – Anonymous
This is one of my favorites too and what better way to teach your child to move on, then by making him/her understand to let go of things that are out of their reach and that demotivate them.
3. “A happy family is but an earlier heaven” – George Bernard Shaw
A family is something a child grows up surrounded with. A child’s definition of happiness can and will be based on how the family stays. And this quote will only enhance his beliefs. If he stays happy with his family, he will know what heaven is like.
4.”What can you do to promote world peace? Go home and love your family.” – Mother Teresa
It is said that one is at his most peaceful when he is at home and with his family. Teach your child this and he is sure to achieve peace of mind. Only if our children are raised with such beliefs, will there be hope for humanity and world peace. Teaching it to your children will at least help us make the world a better place.
5. “Friends are the family we choose for ourselves.” – Anonymous
Encourage your child to interact with people his age, play with them, share with them and laugh with them. Only then will he know what friends are and understand the meaning of this quote.
6. “In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.” – Martin Luther King
It is important to make your child understand the importance of not only having friends but also being by their side when they need them. Make them do something difficult on their own and they will understand the meaning of this.
7. “If you’re not doing what you love you are wasting your time.” – Anonymous
It is during the growing up years itself that the child will start developing interest for certain things more than the others. He will enjoy these and may even excel in them, so encourage and tell them to do what they love. This quote will motivate them to achieve their dreams, however small and insignificant they may be, ranging from standing first in class to winning a quiz.
8. “If you don’t build your dreams, somebody will hire you to build theirs.” – Tony Gaskins
9. “Respect was invented to cover the empty place where love should be.” – Leo Tolstoy
Respect can only be taught by showing and this would be best explained by love. We respect those we love and should respect everyone because we can’t love so many. That’s how this quote can teach them to respect.
10. “Respect for ourselves guides our morals; respect for others guides our manners” – Laurence Sterne
Words, whether they be spoken or written, can make a lifelong impression on our minds, especially in the young guns’ minds. So, let us strive to change their lives by following the above quotes. Now that you have seen what to teach your children, here’s hoping we can actually implement it and look for a bright future in the near times.
