“If thoughts corrupts language, language can also corrupt thought.” These were the wise words spoken by the legendary English author and journalist George Orwell, and he couldn’t be more right. I, being a reader and also an amateur writer, have never underestimated the power of language and words. There are good sentences that can change your (and your child’s) life, and there are bad sentences that can leave you and others wounded.
It is said and also believed that a tree, a small plant, or for that matter even a building, will stand strong if its foundation is strong. So, let us strive and vow to instill good manners and thoughts in our children from an early age. Teach your children these inspirational quotes on:
(i) Letting go
(iii) Make good friends for life
(iv) Do what you love and love what you do
(v) Compassion, empathy, and respect
What makes a good sentence?
Sometimes an average and not-too-positive sentence can be written so beautifully that it inspires and motivates children and adults. Here are a few tips:
1. Trim the fat
2. Move strong words to the beginning or end
3. Don’t use fluff
4. Get rid of passive voice
5. Choose better verbs
Read on to get more tips on how to write and encourage positive (and grammatically correct) sentences in children.
Best short sentences and quotes that can change your child’s life:
1. “In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: it goes on.” -Robert Frost
This quote teaches us and our little ones to let go, move on, and live in the present. Teaching your children to let go will help them move on easily with no negative feelings.
2. “Giving up doesn’t always mean you are weak, sometimes it means you are strong enough to let go.” – Anonymous
This is one of my favorites too and what better way to teach your child to move on, then by making him/her understand to let go of things that are out of their reach/control.
3. “A happy family is but an earlier heaven” – George Bernard Shaw
A happy family is a robust concept for a strong foundation. A child’s definition of happiness can and will be based on how the family feels and lives in harmony. And this quote will only enhance his beliefs. If he stays happy with his family, he will know what heaven is like.
4.”What can you do to promote world peace? Go home and love your family.” – Mother Teresa
It is said that one is at his most peaceful when he is at home and with his family. Teach your child the importance of security. Only if our children are raised with such beliefs, will there be hope for humanity and world peace? Teaching it to your children will at least help us make the world a safe, secure thereby a better place.
5. “Friends are the family we choose for ourselves.” – Anonymous
Encourage your child to interact with people his age, play with them, share with them, and laugh with them. Only then will he know what friends are and understand the meaning of this quote.
6. “In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.” – Martin Luther King
It is important to make your child understand the importance of not only having friends but also being by their side when they are in need of support. Make them do something difficult on their own and they will understand the meaning of this.
7. “If you’re not doing what you love you are wasting your time.” – Anonymous
It is during the growing up years itself that the child will start developing interest for certain things more than the others. He will enjoy these and may even excel in them, so encourage and tell them to do what they love. This quote will motivate them to achieve their dreams, however small and insignificant they may be, ranging from standing first in class to winning a quiz.
8. “If you don’t build your dreams, somebody will hire you to build theirs.” – Tony Gaskins
Just as the above one, this one will help them identify and realize their dreams right from a young age and it will motivate them to work harder and put in their best.
9. “Respect was invented to cover the empty place where love should be.” – Leo Tolstoy
Respect can only be taught by showing and this would be best explained by love. We respect those we love and should respect everyone because we can’t love so many. That’s how this quote can teach them to respect.
10. “Respect for ourselves guides our morals; respect for others guides our manners” – Laurence Sterne
Only if they respect themselves, they will be able to respect others. And this quote will not only teach them that, but also to respect others also leading them to be a mannered person.
Words, whether they be spoken or written, can make a lifelong impression on our minds, especially in the young guns’ minds. So, let us strive to change their lives by following the above quotes. Now that you have seen what to teach your children, here’s hoping we can actually implement it and look for a bright future in the near times.
