1. Apple Sauce Recipe

Benefits: Apple sauce is packed with iron, Vitamin A, C and minerals such as Potassium, Magnesium, Calcium which are very good for your baby’s growth and development.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Apple (steamed and mashed)
  • 1 Banana (optional)
  • Less than 1/2 cup water

Preparation:

Peel, core and cut an apple into chunks and place them into a pan with just enough water to slightly cover the chunks. Now boil or steam until tender.To achieve a smooth consistency (which is imperative while feeding baby food at stage 1), mash the boiled apple with a potato masher. If that doesn’t work, make a puree by blending it with a hand-blender. Isn’t the recipe REALLY easy and healthy snack?

Tip: Ask your pediatrician about adding some cinnamon for new tastes. You can also peel a ripe banana and mash in the same bowl with an adult spoon (heating the banana slices for about 20 seconds in the microwave will soften the banana up). Add apple sauce to the banana and there we go. 2. Sweet Potato Sauce Recipe

Benefits: Sweet potato is a healthy food item. It has Vitamin A, C, and Folate. Sweet potato is also rich in Potassium, Sodium, Selenium, Phosphorous, Magnesium, and Calcium.

Ingredients:

  • 1 or 2 pieces of sweet potatoes (steamed and mashed)
  • Less than 1/2 cup water
  • Table salt and pepper (for seasoning)

Preparation

Thoroughly wash and poke holes in sweet potato with a fork then wrap sweet potatoes in tin foil – do not peel for baking in the oven at 400 degrees for 20 minutes (until soft). You can also opt for microwaving, just that you must use plastic wrap and cook for about 30 minutes until tender

OR

Peel sweet potatoes and cut into small chunks and place it in the pan with just enough water to slightly cover the chunks. “Steam” boil until tender, be sure to check on the water level. Make sure to use leftover water for thinning out the sweet potatoes

If you have baked your sweet potato, peel it and use some drinking water (warm it a bit) and add it to the baked/microwaved sweet potato. Now blend the mixture to prepare it’s puree till it achieves smooth, thin consistency. Sprinkle some salt and pepper (very little for taste).6 month baby food 03
