This time of the year, my Instagram and Facebook wall is screaming of resolutions. Fatigued mums, tired dads, ageing grandparents, ambitious bosses, young girls and boys, making promises to themselves about what they plan to achieve this year. Some want to get back in shape, while others want to travel, eat healthy, make babies, pursue their hobbies, so on and so forth. In the middle of all this, I thought about us. Yes! I thought about all you lovely moms out there who are probably telling themselves – “I want to be a mother who is resolved in “THIS” or “THAT”…
Take a look at these 5 popular new year resolution ideas that no mother should make:
1. More Sleep
If you want to set a goal to get more sleep, that’s not a good idea. You’ll never make it there. At least not for the next 20 years. They say… “The first 40 years of parenthood are always the hardest”.
2. No Cellphones
I won’t use my phone around my kids. Well, honestly speaking this works for the first few weeks but then we get back to the same old habit. Isn’t it? The truth is, we cannot live without posting an Awww moment. So, how about if you disable phone notifications. Yes, that works… at least it won’t distract you from the frequent updates.
3. Wakeup Early
What!!? Is that even a goal? Haven’t you got it already. Not legitimate enough to make it to that list!
4. More Fitness
If you’re talking fitness, moms do more lifting than anyone in the world. Up the stairs with a 12 kg of screaming toddler, and down the stairs with a heavy laundry basket.
5. More Courageous
Ah! Finally the last one, if your goal is to be more courageous, there is nothing more daring than being a momma and raising kids. Yes! I am serious!
Deal folks, especially, my lovely mummies, you really don’t need to set a single New Year’s resolution! At the end of your first few years of parenting, you’ll feel what else is left? You’ve achieved them all. There’s nothing more adventurous or self-proclaiming than what you’re already doing for your kids. In my eyes, you are a Super Mom, and let’s not relate mothers to fictitious Super Woman. I mean you’re great. You’re everything for your kids.
Dear Mummy, be you because at the end of the day what really matters is those beautiful kisses and warm hugs. Who cares about being perfect and fulfilling resolutions. You really don’t need 5 stars when you are already a “Super Star”.
So does that mean, we really should not have a resolution? Not really… Instead, I recommend these 4 important things for parents this year which is surely going to help you and your children.
- Bring a lot of positivity in your life
- Have open discussion with your kids
- Do lots of outdoor fun activities
- Give space to each other
Happy New Year 2020!
