If your child was ever a fan of A. A. Milne’s wonderful Winnie the Pooh she or he might have come across these lovely lines in one of the delightful Pooh books.
“When you wake up in the morning, Pooh,” said Piglet, “what’s the first thing you say to yourself?”
“What’s for breakfast?” said Pooh. “What do you say, Piglet?”
“I say, I wonder what’s going to happen exciting today?” said Piglet.
Pooh nodded thoughtfully. “It’s the same thing,” he said.
And who can disagree with Winnie the Pooh? Of course, breakfast is the most happening part of the day!
3 Not-so-obvious reasons for having healthy morning breakfast:
- Breakfast with the right balance of nutrients that provides for 25% of daily nutritional requirements gives your child the “right start to the day”
- And guess what, nutrients skipped at breakfast cannot be compensated during the rest of the day! So even if you wake up late or feel lethargic in the morning, stir up a quick breakfast for your family, especially the kids. Children who eat breakfast perform better at school. Research has shown that habitual breakfast consumption is positively associated with learning in children.
- If you are into dieting do also keep in mind that a regular breakfast helps in managing weight. Skipping breakfast isn’t a weight-loss (meal plan) strategy – for you, your husband, or child. Kick-starting your day with a nutritionally balanced breakfast. This may help you start your active day with energy for productive work and help you stay away from bingeing unhealthy foods due to hunger.
As mothers, we often are in a fix with our schedules. We must be constantly multitasking – from managing the kids to taking care of the family to fulfilling our passions through our jobs. Unfortunately, there’s a huge tendency among us to ignore ourselves too. This is one of the primary reasons we often miss breakfast ourselves.
So, why stress out?
It’s not always possible to prepare that ‘healthy’ sandwich or the bowl of upma to pump yourself up but you can always opt for a nourishing bowl of ready-to-eat cereal with milk/ curd along which is quick to prepare. Whether you have it with hot or cold milk, mix it as part of a smoothie, prepare a bowl with curds and fruits, the options are numerous. As a person who is constantly busy, cereals are one of our best bets to keep our health and eating patterns on track.
And let’s face it, whenever we say cereals, the first name that comes to our head is Kellogg’s. With a delightful variety of cereals, right from their classic cornflakes to Muesli, Kellogg’s cereals are a good choice for a quick and nourishing breakfast. Their Seed-To-Spoon story also ensures that they are simply processed. They source the grains directly from the farmers, boil the corn and only lightly toast them before packaging – literally zero chemical processing which also means you also get the wholesome nutrition of the flakes.
In fact, we found out that a 30g serving of Kellogg’s Corn Flakes along with 120ml of milk helps meet your dietary requirements of nutrients at breakfast. Mix the different variants available in the market and have a different one on different days of the week if you like. Add a splash of cold or hot milk – you and your child will be set to kick start the day.
What’s your choice for a quick and healthy breakfast? I don’t compromise on my morning’s nourishment, why should you?
Nice and informative
