Gentle parenting is gaining its due recognition of late. People are gaining awareness about why raising voice is not helping. Today TCT is discussing how you should raise your words instead of voice.
The Champa Tree’s thought of the day – Raise your words:
“Raise your words, not your voice. It is rain that grows flowers, not thunder”- Rumi
The saying ‘the pen is mightier than the sword’ has different dimensions to it. Pen refers to the words that are written using a pen. Hence the power is in the words. We can tell the same matter in different ways. The choice of words is what matters the most. Instead of screaming ‘Don’t touch fire’, you can tell ‘If you touch fire, your hand would be burned. Hence you have to be careful.’
A good choice of words can have an unimaginable impact. You might have heard the story of the astrologer who was beheaded for telling that the King would die alone. The next astrologer came and told that the King would live longer than everyone else. The meaning was more or less the same.
This is applicable in your child’s case as well. You can give the same lesson in different ways. Hence from now onwards, don’t raise your voice, just change the choice of words and see how it works.
