Life-changing Tips For Mothers On How To Organize Clothes

With a lot more time at home, dear mom, have you been asking yourself, “How to organize clothes?” You want to continue living in an organized and squeaky clean house for the sake of your bundle of joy and for the sake of your sanity. However, as soon as you survive the first few days of motherhood, you realize that is mission impossible. How to organize clothes is a question you have asked yourself even in your sleep.

Perhaps things started to get out of hand when you left behind dirty dishes in the sink overnight because you were dead on your feet. Or when you forgot to take the rubbish away. Or when you let it spread to your closet where – just recently – garments were nicely folded and organized but now all you see is an unmanageable pile of clothes.

Enough is enough. You have to take back control of your life! If like many other mommies out there you have to rummage through your drawers to find that perfect T-shirt, then you need to follow our quick folding guidelines to make your clothes look store-beautiful and easy to find. Let’s start folding!

How to organize clothes and have more time on hands for other tasks:

Jeans and Pants

Start by emptying your drawers. Take everything out and lay it flat on a surface in the bedroom. Spray the inside of the drawers with a 50-50 mixture of distilled water and white vinegar. If you desire, add a teaspoon of essential oils. Wipe clean with a microfiber cloth and let dry. According to FastHomeCleaning SW15 “Clean all your cupboards or drawers before you put back your clothes.” You can also opt for a store-bought all-purpose cleaner.

Now, time to fold your garments. Lay your jeans/pants flat and fold them in half. To make a straight line, be sure to tuck the crotch in. Next, fold up the jeans/pants to the top, then do a little half again. And that’s it. The same rule applies to baby pants.

T-shirts and Tops

Begin by laying your T-shirt flat and make sure the image is facing the floor (later on you will find out why). Now fold in the sides, then fold the item in half. But that’s not all, mommies. Once you do this, fold the item in half one more time. It creates a nice little package. The reason you want to do this is that you will be able to see the prints on the T-shirt so that you don’t rummage through your drawers to find what you are looking for. You can see what’s on each shirt. Also, it’s easy to figure out what you have. As we know, mothers are always on the go, so this time-saving technique will allow you to quickly locate the item you are looking for and just move on to what you were up to.

Make sure to repeat the steps for each and every T-shirt and when you are done, place them in your drawer in a similar way you keep your folders organized; that is, arrange them one behind the other in a vertical manner. Use the same method when it comes to folding your bundle of joy’s shirts.

Well, here is another method of folding your T-shirts that saves space and looks neat. Place your shirt on the floor/bed. Flip-up the bottom part a few inches. This will create a “lip”. Then fold each side of the item in as usual. Roll the shirt tightly. When you fold to the end, flip the lip over the shirt the way you normally proceed with socks. And that’s it. This method can reduce wrinkling. The only trouble is, you can’t really see the picture of your garments. Plus, it takes more time to do it.

Sweaters

Lay your sweater out on a flat surface. Fold the arm of the sweater back on itself. Fold the other arm the same way. The next thing you are going to do is to fold in the sides. Then, fold in thirds. Now, flip it over and you are good.

This method works for other bulkier items as well.

Undergarments

Now, there is nothing special about organizing your underwear, although you could improve your organizing system a little bit. Store your bras one behind the other after clipping each one up. For your bikinis, fold them as you normally fold bikinis and arrange them in the same fashion you used for your T-shirts. If you own a bunch of bikinis, this will save lots of room. If you don’t, it might be a better idea to stack them. Just make sure it is all neat, beautiful and organized.

Tip: if you keep all your underwear in the same drawer, it might be best to use dividers.

Socks

Ah, socks. Folding socks is one of the most ridiculous and daunting tasks that need to be done, simply because we all have tons of socks. But love it or hate it, you just have to do it. Now, most of the folding methods that we know kind of stretch the socks, so here is a good one. Lay one sock on top of the other and fold a couple of times. Don’t flip up one end over the other sock though, just leave it like that. Put them back in the drawer. Again, stick with the method you use to organize your folders. Another great idea is to use sock keepers. How to organize clothes 03Image credits: 03

Whether you are a working mom or a stay at home mom, you need to find time to organize your drawers. Once you do so, it will be easy to keep things under control. We hope our folding tips have inspired you to go and reorganize all your garments and underwear. And if you are a mom-to-be, you might want to start early so that you don’t have to go through all this when the baby is born. Good luck!
