1. Raw papaya

Raw papaya should be avoided at any cost. It contains a latex substance that is rich in enzyme Papain that may cause contractions of the uterus. Nonetheless, ripe papaya is harmless. Many women eat ripe papaya throughout their pregnancy. But raw papaya is a big no. It tops the list of foods to be avoided during the first trimester.

2. Pineapple

This tropical fruit has Bromelain (known to slow blood clotting) which can cause softening of the cervix leading to premature labor. Howsoever you like it, you have to avoid pineapple during the first trimester.

3. Certain fish varieties

Some seafood has too much mercury content which hampers the developing nervous system of a baby. Just remember that a big-sized fish will have more mercury. Therefore, it is advised to avoid Shellfish, Shark, Swordfish, Tilefish, and King Mackerel at any cost.

4. Herbal tea

 Herbal leaves can have an impact on the baby’s development and hence it is is one among the foods to be avoided in the first trimester of pregnancy.
