Eat Right, The Right Way – Enfagrow

Do you often ask yourself what ‘Nutrition’ means and what does ‘eat right’ mean? As a mom are you concerned about your baby’s milestones? Is he eating healthy? Well, read on to know if you are on the right track.

Nutrition is the study of nutrients in food, how the body uses nutrients, and the relationship between diet, health, and disease. Nutrition also focuses on how diseases, conditions, and problems can be prevented or reduced with a healthy diet.

Similarly, nutrition involves identifying how certain diseases and conditions may be caused by dietary factors, such as poor diet (malnutrition), food allergies, and food intolerance.

Nutrition in children does not have to do ONLY with the foods kids are typically consuming. But how my son has been consuming whatever he maybe consuming also plays a significant role!

Early Eating Habits:

It all starts at an early age. My son’s eating behavior pretty much evolved during the first year of his life. You know why? Well! It is because – biological and behavioral processes directed towards meeting requirements for health and growth.

Because infants are born into a wide variety of cultures and cuisines, they come equipped as young omnivores with a set of behavioral predispositions that allow them to learn to accept the foods made available to them.

The first five years of my little one’s life were a crucial time for brain development and determined his eating behaviors for a long time to come. During these early years, he learnt what, when, and how much to eat.

It is therefore critical to instill healthy eating habits early on in children.

All that is Sweet and Tasty is Not Healthy:

Most families today have busy schedules, making it hard to prepare and eat homemade meals on a daily basis. As a result, family members, including kids, rely heavily on processed foods which contain lots of refined carbohydrates and sugar. These calorie-rich foods may satiate hunger but do not provide essential nutrients required for growth in children. These carbohydrates are often not burned off and then get stored as fat in the  body. This is reflected in climbing rates of childhood obesity we see around us. Thus. making sure your child is getting the required nutrition requires special attention.

It is also important to teach kids that processed foods with loads of salt and sugar are tasty but they do not provide any nutritional value. These packed foods contain simple sugars which provide a temporary boost of energy without as many other nutrients. Instead, children can be introduced to wholesome foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, pulses, sprouts that are prepared in a number of dishes. They contain complex carbohydrates that provide long-lasting energy to the body and include fiber, vitamins and minerals. Similarly, foods with good saturated fats assist in physical and mental development.

The right nutrition ensures many benefits for children:

  • It provides energy to get through the day..
  • Keeps children content
  • Help them maintain a healthy weight
  • Help prevents mental health conditions. Including depression, anxiety, and ADHD

6 Things I Did for My Child to Eat Right and Eat Healthy:

1. I Shared the Responsibility

You decide when, where, and what the family eats; the child chooses whether and how much to eat from the options you provide. Teaching children healthy eating habits involves helping them to recognize when they feel hungry or full. Young children are good at listening to their bodies. They eat when they are hungry, and they stop when they are full. When we try to control how much children eat, we interfere with this natural ability. Keeping this division of responsibility helps your child stay in touch with those internal cues.

2. I Listened to my Child

Children who are pushed to have “one more bite” often learn to ignore their bodies’ signals, and that can lead to overeating and weight problems later on. No healthy child has ever starved to death from stubbornly refusing food! As long as your child is growing well and active, rest assured that he or she is getting enough to eat. Don’t expect your child to finish every meal. Also, have realistic expectations by offering only small, ‘child-friendly’ portions.

3. I Ensured Fortified Nutritional Potions

The food we that eat does not always have all the required and essential nutrients especially for our children. It becomes imperative to add something extra to the diet that takes care of nutrient requirements of our children. I have included Enfragrow A+, a nutritional powder in my child’s diet to ensure that he gets all the essential nutrients otherwise missing in our daily intake. It is a nutritional powder for children aged 2 years and above which helps in child’s growth and development in 3 ways, such as brain development, immunity and overall physical growth & health.

4. In My House Breakfast is Important

Start your child’s day with a healthy breakfast. Eating breakfast regularly helps children develop healthy eating habits, improves concentration and memory, and reduces hyperactivity, among other numerous benefits. It also helps upstart children’s metabolism which aids in the absorption of nutrients. Furthermore, a nutritious breakfast has been linked to having better eating habits throughout the day.

5. I Follow a Set Snack and Meal Schedule

Most children do well with three meals and two or three snacks a day. When your child’s body is used to a schedule, hunger and appetite become more regular. Meals should be served at regular times with each meal lasting not more than 30 minutes.

6. I Carry Nutritious and Convenient Food Options for My Child When Dining Out

Cooking meals at home allow more control over the amount of oil and salt used. When dining out as a family, always go for healthier food options. You can also carry your own meal for children, especially within the age bracket of 2 to 4 years.
